This term Beccy Foster has been working with three of our Grade 5 students to engage in the Primary Connections Science Unit, “Desert Survivors”. Tim, Maddy and Elkin have been exploring the science understanding that Living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to survive in their environment. Students engaged in a range of investigations which culminated in assessment tasks that enabled students to present their science understandings in creative ways. They were asked to design and construct a model of an animal that possesses unique features that would enable it to survive in a desert environment. Additionally students undertook research on desert animals and plants and each created a small presentation. Maddy, Tim and Elkin will present what they have learnt in this unit with the rest of the class this Wednesday afternoon. We are very grateful to Beccy for all of her fantastic work preparing and engaging Maddy , Tim and Elkin in a range of learning experiences. Beccy says that she really enjoyed the process. As an artist, Beccy is very interested in the way that art can be used to incorporate students understanding of scientific understandings, concepts and knowledge.
